In the recently concluded penda song contest which had over 200 young talented musicians in the competitions all pursuing a 10 million prize, Andereya Baguma happened to have crowned it all as the overall winner for 2019 -2020 contests and smashed away the huge some cash of 10 Million Ugandan shillings in the grand finale which took place on 18th August 2019 at the National Theater before a huge number of Ugandans who paid to witness the grand finale winner Andereya Baguma.
The competitions began in early April and had two (2) major hot auditions in which cream was filtered out. In the first auditions, Andereya Baguma managed to be among the top fifty and this looked like a dream to him
“I made it in the first auditions and i could not believe it. Actually, i spent a night asking if it was really me who had made it through the next round.”
Through out the competitions, the young talented Ugandans had content that it only needed technical judgement to filter out cream. For every one who presented seemed to be the winner of the song contest. However Andereya’s unique techniques and creativity made him go through the second round auditions to the top 19 then top 12 then final 7 where he ranked number one at the end.
Andereya’s tactic of embracing culture made him outstanding out of other super talented competitors. He embraced culture through his African unique costumes. It is noted by the judges that he was among the few competitors who had lyrics that combined almost all languages in the country. In this, he took in mind the different cultures and packaged a message for them.
Every time the pend 2019/2020 star appeared on stage, he had something new.
“I tried to make my performances during the competitions live and fun through including instruments like the African Akongo (thumb piano) and drum assemble among others. Such innovations made the audience always to expect more and more from me.”
When asked how he is to spend the 10 million prize, Andereya decided to keep it personal. He argues to let us know after proper investments are made. As cocis news, we shall follow it up and let you updated.
